Local Borough Councillor, Louise Brice, questioned the Chairman of the Communities, Housing and Environment Committee last week on the number of fly-tipping incidents reported and the number that had seen fines in Staplehurst ward. The committee stated that 62 were reported, but only 2 had fines or notices issued.
This shows the scale of the issue being faced and the need for greater investment in enforcement activities, both in operatives monitoring 'hot spots', as well as following up on details for waste collectors too. Cllr. Brice adds, "I would like to see fines cover the cost of not only clearing up these areas but helping to protect them from future fly-tipping too".
