The Boundary Review Commission have made their final recommendations on new proposed boundaries for wards at Maidstone Borough Council, as well as recommendations for the number of Cllrs (49, down from 55). Staplehurst is the only area that is unchanged by the review, as the number of electors was in line with the number of Cllrs (2) and had followed the existing parish boundary. Whilst, I supported the review's decision that Staplehurst remain a two-member ward, I would like to see fewer layers of local government and support an exploration of a unitary authority for our area, to ensure that there is greater ability for the local planning authority to drive decision making on infrastructure investment.
